My interest in music undoubtedly had it's origin in the hymns which were sung in church when I was a child. My family attended a United Methodist Church in a small rural town in Pennsylvania where they had a marvelous pipe organ, which had been a gift from Andrew Carnegie. The church always had a fine choir and lots of talented musicians to offer their services as needed. My music education began with piano lessons at the age of 7, and at about age 14 I began singing in the church choir and joined the high school band. In college, I was a member of the university men's glee club. Somewhat later in life I learned to play the organ.
