FAREWELL MATTHEW

Matthew, you are gone from us to a better place, we know, but you will never be forgotten as long as we live on. Although you are physically gone forever, your memory, your kindness, and your spirit will live on in our hearts. In life, you changed the larger world of our country and the world very little, but in death, you awoke the conscience and sensitivity of our nation and the world to intolerance and injusticed perpetrated against those in our world who are different. Your death helped us to remember what we love most about America, and awakened us to the reality that the individual rights of every person are precious and a part of the heritage of every American regardless of their race, religion, politics, or social orientation.

Rest in peace, Matthew and may your life
 keep us ever in memory of you and the 
kind of goodness which you stood for as
 you lived your life in this hard and
 dangerous world.May your memory always 
keep our eyes focused on the race which
 God has set before us, and may  the
 memory of your kindness and goodness
 always lead us to responsible acts of 

love and mercy with all persons.
